Car-Puccino is a coffee-Copowered car designed by a team of from the BCC1 science program “Bang Goes The Theory.” Car-Puccino, actually a modified version of a Volkswagen Scirocco, will run from Manchester to London using roasted coffee granules as fuel.

Car-Puccino will use a kilo of ground coffee for three miles, or 56 espressos a mile, and the entire journey will use approximately 11,760 espressos, giving a top speed of 60mph. Above all, the team will have to stop every 60 miles to clean coffee filters; it will take at least ten hours to complete the journey.

NEW COFFEE LAUNCH

We LAUNCHED a coffee called SPERANZA meaning Hope in Italian on 1st November 2008 whereby 25% of the profits from its sale will go to the Alzheimers Research Trust. It is available in the Ethical Coffees section of the website.

COFFEE MAY REDUCE THE RISK OF PROSTATE CANCER.

Drinking coffee may lower the risk of developing the deadliest form of prostate cancer, according to a Harvard Medical School study.In research involving 50,000 men over 20 years, scientists led by Kathryn Wilson at Harvard’s Channing Laboratory foundthat the 5 percent of men who drank 6 or more cups a day had a 60 percent lower risk of developing the advanced form of the disease than those who didn’t consume any. The risk was about 20 percent lower for the men who drank 1 to 3 cups a day, and 25 percent lower for those consuming 4 or 5 cups.
